Age 94 of Wheelersburg, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 at SOMC Hospice. She was born March 19, 1923 in Portsmouth to Wayne and Eva (Wolfe) Lykins. Alma was a 1941 graduate of Portsmouth High School and worked as a fancy stitcher and Manager at Selby and Williams shoe factories in Portsmouth, Perry Norvel shoe factory in Huntington, WV, and for Kenny's Shoes in Albuquerque, NM. Along with her first husband, Rev. Raymond Adkins, they pastored many years in the Highland Bend, Kenova, and Ashland areas and was known for her beautiful piano playing at church. The church was her life and she was a longtime member of the Pentecostal Church of Christ.
Alma is survived by her son, Ronald Adkins of Raceland, KY; daughters, Phyllis (Carl) Salmons of Grove City and Teresa (Carl) Wallace of Wheelersburg; stepchildren, John (Carol) McCarty and Jean Hughes, both of Springfield; 8 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Rev. Raymond Adkins and Cecil McCarty; brothers, Robert and Roger Lykins; sister, Madelyn Jordan.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at D.W. SWICK-NELSON FUNERAL HOME IN WHEELERSBURG, 11901 Gallia Pike, Wheelersburg, with Pastor Cline McAllister officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
