Age 88, of Portsmouth, died on Monday, June 25, 2012 at SOMC Hospice. He was born January 7, 1924 in Sciotoville to George and Sarah Mae (Stapleton) Sullivan. Arthur was a WWII Veteran who served in the Philippines and Okinawa. He earned two Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge and ribbons, and attained the rank of Sargent, E7. He served as commander of the VFW #134 from 1987 - 89. He was a member of the VFW #3638, American Legion #622, and Sunshine Church of Christ in Minford. Arthur worked for many years at the Dayton Malleabe steel mill in Ironton.

He is survived by four sons, John (Phyllis) Sullivan of Ft. Worth, TX, George Sullivan of Portsmouth, Dennis Sullivan (Anna Lee Conner) of Portsmouth, Terry (Debra) Sullivan of Portsmouth; four daughters, Jewell "Judy" Butler (Ray) of Marion, Peggy Williams (George) of Greenup, KY, Heidi Thompson (Roger) of Marion, Donna Wise (Don) of Portsmouth; one brother, Tom Sullivan of Columbus; three sisters, Edna Holland of Wheelersburg, Elizabeth Brown of Hillsboro, Helen Ruckel of Columbus; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 1995; one daughter, Diana Sullivan who died in infancy; two sisters, Shirley Blake, Hazel Messer; and one brother, Clyde Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Wolfe-Nelson Funeral Home in Sciotoville with Pastor Steve Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Buckeye Cemetery in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call on Wednesday between 4 - 8 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service.
