Age 83 of South Webster, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017 following a brief illness. She was born September 20, 1933 in Jackson, OH, a daughter of the late Everett and Marget (Rasp) Sonne. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and had taught in Ross County for many years. She had many friends including her church families from the Methodist Church in Bainbridge and South Webster.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Arthur Shumate; one daughter, Susan (Shumate) Shaw and great- granddaughter, Hailey L. Steele, both of South Webster; one son, John M. (Susan) Shumate of Circleville, OH; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah E. Shaw of Bainbridge.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday March 29, 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church in South Webster with Sam Peters officiating.  Private interment will follow at a later date. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. SWICK-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in South Webster. The family requests no flowers be sent.
