Age 70 of Sciotoville died Tuesday January 24, 2012 at his residence. He was born on November 4, 1941 in Olive Hill, KY to Benjamin and Nora (Patton) Newell. He was a 1960 East High School graduate where he played football and was a Navy veteran, having served as a Dental Tech during his time in the service. Ben worked for over 25 years as a steel worker for AK Steel as a Union Steel Worker followed by years with M & J Welding and Mills Pride. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing, golfing, flying small aircraft, and cheering on the East High football team. More than anything he loved spending time with his family.

Ben is survived by his wife of 48 years, Garnet; one son, Ben Newell (special friend Sabrina Ferrell) of Sciotoville; two daughters, Terri Wallace (Daniel) of Portsmouth, Becky Lipscomb (Eric) of Jackson; two sisters, Darlynn Blessings of Marion, LaDonna Killinger of St. Petersburg, FL; seven grandchildren, Jacqui Shiveley (Tony), Elisha Brahin (Luke), Brookelyn Newell, Brittany Newell, Joshua Lipscomb, Sarah Lipscomb, and John Lipscomb; one great-grandchild, Elyn Shiveley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bob Bradley, and one sister, Joy Robinson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Wolfe-Nelson Funeral Home in Sciotoville with Pastor Kevin Gullion officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
