Age 82 of South Webster, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.  Ben was born to Roy and Wilma (Crabtree) Smith on May 15, 1934 in South Webster.

In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Blantz of Lebanon, PA; siblings, Alice, Dick, Lyle (Butch), Donald, Margaret, Ronald, and Marvin; and granddaughter, Laura.

Ben is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol (Lewis) Smith; son, Bennett Jr. (Brenda) of Lockbourne; daughter, Sherri Ziessler (Brian) of Findlay; son-in-law, Mike Blantz of Lebanon, PA; grandchildren, Wendy Skaggs of Louisville, KY, Jason Ziessler (Catie) of Fostoria, Crystal Naka of Columbus, Brian Riegel of Columbus, Eric Ziessler (Hanna) of Las Vegas, NV, Sean Ziessler (Courtney) of Curtice, Matt Blantz (Becky) of Lebanon, PA; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Helen Allen of Minford, Bob (Carol) of Grove City, Gary (Connie) of Portsmouth, Vickie Handy of Columbus, Carolyn Hamilton (Ronnie) of South Webster; first wife, Patti McKelvey of Findlay; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to name.

Ben retired from Plaskolite Inc. in Columbus after 50 years of dedicated service.  He was an avid antique car buff and enjoyed collecting and showing many of his cars.  He was a member of a camping club for many years and had currently attended the South Webster Community Church.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at D.W. SWICK-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in South Webster with Pastor Merit Smith officiating.  Interment will follow at South Webster Cemetery.  Friends may call Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Wednesday.  Online condolences may be left at www.DWSwickNelsonFuneralHome.com.
