Brian Scott Fancher, 68, of Portsmouth passed away September 28, 2026, with his daughter by his side. He was born on November 8, 1957, in Martinsville, Indiana, to Robert S. Fancher and Elaine (McCaulla) Fancher. He will be remembered for the love he shared, the memories he created, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

Brian proudly served in the United States Army and was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, Ohio.

A man who found peace and happiness in the great outdoors, Brian had a deep passion for fishing, camping, and spending time in nature. Some of his happiest moments were spent beneath a sky full of stars, gathered around a campsite, or sitting beside the water with a fishing pole in hand, always hoping to catch the biggest fish. His love for the outdoors was more than a hobby; it was a part of who he was, and a passion he lovingly instilled in his daughter and bonus children. The memories made around campfires, along the riverbanks, and under the open sky will remain treasured reminders of the adventurous life he lived.

Brian was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert S. Fancher and Elaine (McCaulla) Fancher; his brothers, Steven Fancher and Lawrence Swords; and his sister, Denise James. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Emily (David) Altman, and his beloved granddaughter, Jovi Altman. He is also survived by his sister, Dianne (Greg) John; his loving friend, Catherine; three stepchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends whose lives were made better by knowing him.

Though Brian will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the lessons he passed down, and the countless memories held close by those who loved him. His legacy will be found in quiet moments spent outdoors, in the glow of a campfire, in the gentle sound of flowing water, and in every cast of a fishing line. We hope Heaven looks just like the river he loved so much. May he rest in peace, forever surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors and the love of those who will never forget him.
