Carlos A. Mays, 74, of Sciotoville died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at SOMC Hospice Center. He was born May 13, 1934 in Carlisle, W.VA., a son of the late James A. and Frankie Barker Mays. Carlos retired as an equipment operator from the City of Portsmouth after 28 years service. He also held many other positions during his years with the city. He was a member of Sand Hill Christian Baptist Church, V.F.W. Post 3638 and was very envolved with the Sciotoville Little League. He was a U.S. Army veteran having proudly served in Korea. Carlos is survived by his wife Carol Bocook Mays whom he married on May 25, 1962 in Wheelersburg; three sons, Carlos (Rick) Mays and wife Michelle of South Webster, Scott Mays and wife Rhonda of Wheelersburg and Brian Mays of Sciotoville; seven grandchildren, Ericka, Megan, Zachary, Madison, Jenna, Carly and Elizabeth; two sisters, Francis Cox of Marion and Mary Davis and husband John of Westmoreland, Tenn. and several neices and nephews.Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston with Pastor Ronnie Blevins officiating. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery with military graveside honors by James Dickey Post 23, American Legion. Visitation will be Monday 5 to 8 PM and Tuesday 1 to 2 PM at D.W. Swick in New Boston.
