Age 61 of Columbus, formerly of Sciotoville, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at Westminster Thurber Retirement Community in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born October 15, 1950 in Portsmouth to Ray and Georgia (Ferguson) Conley. She graduated in 1969 from Portsmouth East High School in Sciotoville and from Portsmouth Business College in the early 1970's. Carolyn married Ron Baker in Columbus in 1991.
Known for her unfailing smile, compassion, and helpfulness, Carolyn was a blessing to all who knew her, and especially to her family and friends. She shared her warmth and joy with everyone she met over her long career, which included many important positions, most notably at Ross Laboratories in Columbus where she was the Statistical Unit Supervisor in the Research Department for several years. She and her husband Ron owned a bookstore, Baker's Books and Things, in Columbus. In later years Carolyn worked at Kodak Technical Services, Greenfield Research, and Pike Community Hospital.
Carolyn was an irreplaceable pillar in her community, always engaged, loving and generous and a wonderful example of living the gift of each day to its fullest. She was a former member of 1st Congregational Church in Columbus. Carolyn was a multi-talented artist, enjoying painting, crocheting, & knitting. She was a great animal lover and provided shelter for a wide range of cats and dogs over her lifetime.
She is survived by her loving family: husband, Ron Baker; one daughter, Rebecca Rae Baker (Jeremy Messer) of Sciotoville; two grandsons, Landon and Braden Messer, and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Wolfe-Nelson Funeral Home in Sciotoville with Reverend Richard North officiating. Friends may call Saturday from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, Ohio. Memorial preferred to Sierra's Haven in Portsmouth.
