Obituary

Age 86 of New Boston, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. He was born July 31, 1929 in Tuttleville, OH to Charles L. and Verlia (Hall) Clevenger. Charlie graduated from Glenwood High School in 1947 and married Margaret Thompson in 1949 in New Boston. He worked a short time at Kroger's in Portsmouth, then worked as a custodian at Glenwood High School until 1970. He then worked for Empire Detroit Steel until 1974 and after this worked as a foreman for Aristech Chemical in Franklin Furnace where he retired in 1991. Charlie will be always known for an indomitable spirit and was forever positive and full of life. He touched countless people throughout his life with these traits and was always there to lend support in any way he could. He was a terrific photographer, poet, and author. The collections of his poetry and photographs will be a legacy for years to come. Most of all, Charlie lived each and every day with joy, knowing the Lord held him in his hands every moment.

He is survived by a son, Charles "Chuck" Clevenger (Rhonda) of Cedarville; one daughter, Jane Newberry of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack Clevenger (Barbara) of Wheelersburg; three sisters, Dorothy Tipton of Phoenix, AZ, Phyllis Hewitt of Berne, IN, Kay Patton (Doug) of Houston, TX; one son-in-law, John Downs of Eureka Springs, AR. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret, in 2006; two sons, Thomas Lynn Clevenger and Paul Martin Clevenger; a daughter, Nancy Downs; a granddaughter, Kristi Clevenger; a daughter-in-law, Ramona Clevenger; two brothers, Joe and Paul Clevenger; two sisters, Edith Hatton and Ina Whitley.

Funeral
services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Christ United Methodist Church in Sciotoville with Rev. John Richards and Rev. Richard North officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call Friday from 4-7 p.m. at WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville and Saturday one hour prior to the service at church.
