Age 84 of Wheelersburg, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at his home. He was born June 5, 1932 in Lake City, TN to Virgil and Amanda (Bratcher) Lindsay. In April of 1966 he married his first wife, Plura (Stiltner). Charlie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 27 years, attaining the rank of Master Sargent. He specialized in Food Service and served in Korea, Vietnam, France, Germany, and Greenland. In his retirement he became a 32nd degree Mason, was a Kentucky Colonel, a life member of the DAV, the VFW, and a former chapter Commander of the DAV. He was of the Apostolic faith.
Charlie is survived by his second wife who he married in 2009, Margaret (Messer); sons Charles (Theresa) of Charlotte, NC, Anthony of TX, Richard (Amelia) of Covington, LA; sister, Elizabeth Lowdy of MI; additional children, Phyllis (John) Lore of Tylertown, MS, Samuel and Tom Stiltner, both of New Orleans, LA, John Stiltner of Gretna, LA; sixteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Plura; one son, James Stiltner.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville with Pastor Mike Gifford officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg with full military honors provided by James Dickey Post #23, American Legion. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
