IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Mae
(Dotson) Glaze
November 2, 2016
On November 2nd 2016, Dorothy Mae Dotson of Camp Creek Road Lucasville, Ohio died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Fort Thomas KY after a hard fought battle for survival. She developed complications from a surgery to treat COPD, which she acquired from smoking and chemical exposure.
She grew up on a "holler" in Ransom KY and was the daughter of Don Dotson and Claudia Hagar (both deceased). Her father was a coal miner, dying of cancer when she was a young girl. After his death the coal mine forced them from their home which was owned by the coal mine and her mother raised her and her 6 other siblings alone. They adopted a sustainable life, living off of food they grew, raised or hunted and cooperating with neighboring families for supplies. She and her family often joked about their "Hager grit", a nod to their strong wills to survive. She carried that grit with her to the end. She loved life, especially her family and friends. She didn't take things for granted and was grateful for the little things. She was quick to forgive, was a peacemaker and exuded wisdom and kindness.
When she was younger she loved to dance and was known for her fashionable attire and bouffant hair. She graduated from Belfry High School as a member of the National Honor Society. She went on to become a hairdresser and even after ending her career in hair she was the hairdresser to many family and friends in the Camp Creek neighborhood where she relocated after marrying and starting a family.
There she grew a garden, canned vegetables, made delicious meals for her family, tended flowers and attended Howard United Methodist Church. She went on to work at (and eventually retire from) Jasper Elementary where she worked as a cook, serving countless children she held close to her heart and often snuck seconds and thirds to any child who asked. She was an honest, hard worker and took her responsibilities seriously. She is survived by her husband, Larry Glaze, who took interest in her when she stopped for gas at his brother's gas station in Lucasville in 1965. Their first date was at The Franklin where she danced and they fell in love. They were married 46 years. She is also survived by her children to whom she devoted her life: Larry (Ellen) Glaze, Jodi Glaze-Stolzenburg and Lynn (Chip) Hempill as well as 6 beloved grandchildren Katie, Cabe, Aaron, Emily, Myles and Rowan. She is also survived by two sisters who were also her best friends, Helen Roberts and Phyllis Higgins, as well as a brother, Paul Dotson, and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings Donnie Ray, Pete, and Brenda, all three of whom she had special relationships with.
Dorothy was and will always be deeply loved by her family and friends. She was an amazing wife, mother and friend. She loved her family unconditionally and bore many burdens for others. She leaves behind a legacy of profound strength, virtue, and immense love. May she be an example to those she leaves behind.
Private graveside services were held on November 3, 2016. Arrangements were handled by WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville.
