Elizabeth Jane Shamhart, 85, of South Webster passed away at her home on June 13, 2012. She was born on November 23, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Joseph and Margaret (Mault) McGraw. She was also preceded in death by her husband Carl Shamhart, and her brother Lewis (Geneva) McGraw. Elizabeth was a 1944 graduate of South Eastern High School in Ross County, Ohio. After which she was employed at different venues by the Federal Government. She worked at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio and at the Social Security Administration office in Portsmouth, OH. She started out her career as a clerk/typist with the Social Security Administration and advanced successfully to a service representative. then with additional training and basic training in Cleveland, she returned as a claims representative for the SSA. Upon her retirement from the Social Security Administration, Elizabeth was active in the Cotillion in South Webster and played bridge twice a week throughout her retirement. She enjoyed playing cards, board games and working with her husband on the history of South Webster and the local schools. She always had a thirst for knowledge and never quit asking questions and researching answers. She was admired by her many nieces and nephews and made each one feel they were "special" and her "favorite". One niece, Diana, was her constant companion as her caretaker when Elizabeth's health required additional care at home. Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Marcella Jordan of South Webster, OH; her brothers, Leonard (Annette) McGraw of Alexandria, VA. and Floyd (Jean) McGraw of South Webster, OH; a sister-in-law Darlene Leadingham of Lorain, OH and a brother-in-law Roger Shamhart of Sciotoville, OH. She is also survived by thirty eight nieces and nephews and 23 great nieces and nephews and 12 great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 Saturday, June 16, 2012 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in South Webster with Pastor Paul Hagen officiating. Visitation will be Friday 6 to 8 PM and Saturday 12 to 1 PM at D.W. Swick. Interment will be at South Webster cemetery.
