Frederick L. Wykle, 64, of South Portsmouth died Sunday Sept. 4, 2011 at Community Hospice Center in Ashland. He was born Aug. 11, 1947 in Princewick, W. Va., a son of the late Robert C. Wykle and Madeline Charles Wykle Wheeler of South Webster. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of of James Flannery Post 276, American Legion and Life Member DAV Chapter 99 in Palmeto, Fla. He is also survived by 2 sons, Frederick Wykle Jr. and Travis Wykle both of South Portsmouth; a daughter, Lisa Burris of South Shore; a very special friend, Glenda Osborne of South Portsmouth; a sister, Madeline Norris of Holly Berry, N.C.; 4 brothers, Robert Wykle Jr. and Randy Wykle both of Lake Wales, Fla., Richard Wykle of South Webster and James Cook of Gaston S.C.; 13 grandchildren, Jesse, Justin, William, Lizzy, Alex, Moo Moo, Stevie, Chad, Devon, Crystal, Mason, Mikey and Brandon and 3 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Cook Wykle, a daughter, Brandy Sanford; 2 sisters, Jean Mullens and Virginia Moore. Services will be 2 PM Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in South Webster with Pastor Todd Lockert officiating. Military honors will be by James Flannery Post 276, American Legion. Visitation will be Saturday 5 to 7 PM and Sunday 1 to 2 PM at D.W. Swick in South Webster. Condolences to dwswickfuneralhome.com.
