Garnet M. Newell, 76, of Portsmouth, passed away Friday March 22, 2024 at SOMC Hospice Center. She was born October 12, 1946 in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Cecil and Lorene Lore Parker.

She was a member of the Sciotoville Nazarene Church and enjoyed doing alterations. She could make and fix any kind of clothing. She was also and apprentice electrician.

Garnet is survived by her husband, Jerald Dalton; a son, Ben Newell; two daughters, Dr. Terri (Daniel) Wallace of Portsmouth and Becky (Eric) Lipscomb of Jackson; three sisters, Mildred Wiley of Woods Ridge, Janie Bailey of Portsmouth and Nora Johnson of Beaver and several grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Benjamin Harrison Newell and a brother Charles Parker.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Thursday March 28, 2024 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME (Wolfe-Nelson Chapel) in Sciotoville with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 1 to 2 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
