Helen Spence, 91, of Wheelersburg, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, July 31, 2021, at SOMC.  Born December 7,1929, to the late Luther and Ethel (Benner) Newsom of South Webster.  She was a 1947 graduate of South Webster High School, then graduated with a LPN degree in 1975.  She worked part time until 1978 then was employed at Greenbriar Convalescent Center in Wheelersburg until retiring in 1985.  She was a longtime member of Berean Baptist Church in Sciotoville.

Helen was married to Edward Yelley, Jr. in 1949, widowed in 1973, then remarried in 1978 to her late husband, Robert Spence (2001).  She was also preceded in death by brothers, Howard Newsom, Lowell Newsom and Charles Newsom; her children, Danny Yelley – 1969, Timothy Yelley – 2009, Douglas Yelley – 2019; stepson, Larry Peterson; stepdaughter, Brenda Pack – 2020; and stepgrandson, Joe Spence.  She is survived by her brothers, A.K. (Bill) Newsom of South Webster, Glen Newsom of Springfield, Harold Newsom of Portsmouth; two sisters, Margaret Lathrop of Sciotoville, Ann Hollback of Wheelersburg; her children, Noah Thomas Yelley of Michigan, Ann (Ron) Fankell of Wheelersburg and Marj (Mickey) O'Brien of Sciotoville, Barbara Rowe (Ken) of Hillsboro; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great – great grandchild.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2021, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at D.W.
