Obituary

Herbert Dewayne Madden, 64, a cherished friend, father, and brother, passed away on February 7, 2026, at SOMC in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was born on April 23, 1961, in Portsmouth, Ohio, where he spent much of his life surrounded by the love and warmth of family and friends.

Herb's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with his passions and interests. He enjoyed the thrill of motorcycle riding, finding peace in the great outdoors while fishing and hunting. Those who knew him will fondly remember his joyful spirit during karaoke nights and his enthusiastic participation in Halloween festivities with the kids. Then there is the jokester, always with something for someone, or you would get the stories, from the best storyteller ever. Friends and family were of utmost importance to him, and he cultivated lasting relationships throughout his life. His motto that he strongly believed and lived by was- "friends help friends".

Herb is survived by his son, Jason (Holly) Stiles of South Webster, and his daughters, Sandra (James) Withrow of Greenup, Lalinda Potts of Portsmouth, and Quintessa (Leon Wilson) Madden of Portsmouth. He is also survived by his brothers, Dale and Russell Madden, both of Portsmouth, and his sister, Nancy McKenzie of Portsmouth. Herbert was a proud and loving grandfather to nine grandchildren: James, Thomas, Madison, Carson, Willow, Rynleigh, Zavian, Carter, and Kylie. Additionally, he shared his love and support with his bonus children, William, Amy, and Joseph Blizzard. His close friends Susie, Renee, and Sam held a special place in his life, standing by him through various seasons.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy Stiles Madden, who passed away in 2012, brother, Jerry Madden, special friend, Bill Mollett and by his parents, Herbert and Thelma Juanita Madden.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment to follow at Pinkerman Cemetery.

Herb will be sincerely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, generosity, and joy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
