Herman "Ed" Fireball Collins, 82, of Wheelersburg, passed away peacefully, Tuesday September 29, 2026, at Concord Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wheelersburg. Herman was born in Middletown, Ohio, the son of the late Elisha and Mary (Fields) Collins. He lived a full and meaningful life
centered around his faith, family, friendships, and the many simple things that brought him happiness.
Herman had a lifelong interest in Native American history and proudly served as former Indian Chief Tallige of the Cherokee Nation. He enjoyed watching wrestling, working on puzzle books and word searches, and keeping his mind active. He especially enjoyed participating in the Penny March at church and had a love for singing.
His faith was an important part of Herman’s life. He dearly loved attending Charity Freewill Baptist Church in Clarkstown, where he enjoyed worship, fellowship, and spending time with his church family.
Herman also had a special place in his heart for his beloved cat, “Baby,” who was a cherished companion and brought him great joy.
Herman is survived by his loving wife, Alta Collins; his son, Paul Collins of Dearborn Heights, Michigan; stepsons, Robert Ray of Portsmouth and Arthur Ray of Paintsville, Kentucky; daughter, Delphia Lowe of Portsmouth; stepdaughter, Connie Ray of Maine; sister, Ellen Junkins; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his son, Steven Collins; Makenzie; sisters, Martha and Nellie; brothers, Denton, Earl, Bob, and Floyd; and stepsons, Jimmy and Jeff.
Herman will be lovingly remembered for his faith, his love of singing, his enjoyment of fellowship, his interest in Native American history, and the many personal interests that made him who he was. Most of all, he will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, but the love and memories he shared with his family and friends will remain forever.
May Herman rest peacefully, surrounded by the love and grace he cherished throughout his life.
Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, October 04, 2026, following the 9:30 Church services at Charity Freewill Baptist Church, 7432 OH-139, Lucasville, OH 45648, with Pastor George Vastine officiating.
