Obituary

James Louis Evans, 77, of Sciotoville, Ohio was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, August 28, 2021, with his family by his side.  He was born August 19, 1944, in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Carl S. and Mary Ellen Evans of Sciotoville.

Jim was a 1962 graduate of East High School and attended Ohio State University, Michigan College and Shawnee State University.  He was employed fifteen years by Detroit Steel and retired with twenty-eight years of service from Norfolk and Southern Railroad.  He served in the United States Navy from 1965 – 1971, including two years aboard the U.S.S. Boxer out of Norfolk, Virginia.

He was married to Diane Donley on September 16, 1966, at Sciotoville Christian Church.  Jim was a member of the First Church of Christ in Wheelersburg.  He was active in the music ministry and taught Sunday School for many years.

Surviving are his wife Diane, two daughters, Kim Piguet and husband Ed of Minford and Jenny Schehl and husband Steve of Granville, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jacob Piguet, Grant Piguet, Caroline Schehl, Evan James Schehl and Jackson Schehl; a brother, Terry Evans and wife Connie of Westerville, Ohio; and a brother-in-law, Tim Donley and wife Karen of Williamsburg, Virginia.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Dudley Evans, Allen Lee Evans; and his parents-in-law Virgil and Louise Donley. Jim was a good man, honest, hardworking, God fearing and will greatly be missed by his family whom he dearly loved.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation www.alzheimersresearchfoundation.com or mail to 620 Sea Island Road Suite 288, St. Simons Island, Georgia 31522.

Friends may call at the D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME "WOLFE – NELSON CHAPEL" in Sciotoville, Wednesday, September 1, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Chris Oiler officiating.  Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg with graveside military honors presented by James Dickey Post #23 of the American Legion.  Online condolences may be left at www.DWSwickFuneralHome.com.
