Age 89 of Franklin Furnace, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Heartland of Portsmouth. He was born June 19, 1928 in Franklin Furnace to Donald and Violet (Evans) Pierce. Dick was a skilled carpenter who owned his own contracting business and specialized in building houses. In his later years he farmed and drove a bus for the Green Township. Dick attended Jeanette's Creek Christian Baptist Church in Franklin Furnace.

He is survived by his daughter, Jayne (Matthew) Brumfield of Franklin Furnace; sons, Mike (Debra) Pierce and Patrick Pierce, both of Franklin Furnace; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Catherine "Jean" Pierce; brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville with Reverend Larry Ison officiating.
