James "Jim" Garrison Humphrey, 57, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Jim was born on December 27, 1968, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to James and Jan (Dotson) Humphrey. He was a contractor by trade and attended Lakeside Community Church in New Boston.
Jim was a one-of-a-kind soul whose presence brought something special to everyone who knew him. An artist at heart, he found beauty in the world around him and had a deep love and appreciation for nature. He was, as those who knew him best would say, a true friend of the trees. His curiosity led him into the paranormal, and he enjoyed ghost hunting and exploring the mysteries that fascinated him.
Jim loved his country and was a passionate automotive enthusiast who could appreciate a beautiful car and enjoyed everything about them. He also had a special gift with animals and was affectionately known as a “dog whisperer.”
But perhaps Jim’s greatest gift was the joy he brought to other people. While he had many interests and talents, his real job in life seemed to be keeping everyone smiling. His humor, warmth, kindness, and unforgettable personality will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jims light shines on through his wife, Kerri of Franklin Furnace; his parents, James and Jan Humphrey of West Portsmouth; his sons, Garrett Humphrey of Wheelersburg, Simon Davis of Franklin Furnace, Steven Payton of Franklin Furnace, and Sean Payton of Wheelersburg; his daughters, Madison (Tyler) Miller of Wheelersburg, Bethany Taylor of California, and Annie Davis of Arkansas; his aunt, Erma Davis of West Portsmouth; his sister, Trace (Kurt) Veillon of Louisiana; his grandson, Xavier Miller; and his in-laws, Don and Cathy Ramey. Along with his pups, Ripley and Nina and several extended family members and friends.
Jim leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind laughter, stories, smiles, artwork, adventures, and the countless lives he touched simply by being himself. His love for nature, animals, cars, the unexplained, the people he loves and most importantly, his relationship with The Creator, will forever be his legacy.
A Tribute to Jim's life will be Sunday, October 11, 2026, 5:00 PM at Lakeside Community Church, 4360 Gallia Street, New Boston, OH 45662, Pastor Gerald Penix officiating; gathering of family and friends will be from 4:00 PM until the Service time. Arrangements have been entrusted to D.W. Swick & Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Wheelersburg.
