Obituary

Age 94 of Portsmouth, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Hillview in Portsmouth. He was born in Oliver, KY on December 5, 1920 to the late Charles and Cordia (Puckett) Parker. He proudly served his country as a member of the Army 10th Armored Division which was attached to General Patton's 3rd Army. He received several ribbons and battle stars including the Purple Heart for his service in Europe as a Squad Leader during WWII. Jim was a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans Association and a member of the National 10th Armed Division Veterans Association. He returned to the Portsmouth area and eventually retired from Goodyear Atomic Corporation with over 30 years of service. He was a charter member of the O.C.A.W. Union where he served in several offices including 10 years as Chairman of the Benefits Committee. Jim was a member of the Mabert Road Baptist Church. He enjoyed swimming with the Golden Bears and coached little league baseball in New Boston, West Portsmouth, Lucasville, and had many years of successful coaching the Del Rice League and American Legion.

Jim is survived by two sons, Jim (Marilyn) of Minford, Thom (Carole) of West Bloomfield, MI; one daughter, Marlena McCluer (Kevin) of Baltimore, OH; one son-in-law, George Copen of Portsmouth; eleven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Hunt Parker in 2006 and his daughter, Amelia Jean Copen of Portsmouth who passed away in April, 2015.

Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday October 17, 2015 at Wolfe-Nelson Funeral Home in Sciotoville with Pastor Jim Benner officiating. Military honors will be provided by the James Dickey Post #23 American Legion. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Friends may call Friday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be left at www.WolfeNelsonFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to SOMC Hospice. WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME is handling the arrangements.
