James Ray Reed, 60, of Portsmouth passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 at his home.  He was born June 29, 1963 to the late James and Clara (Barry) Reed.  James was a mechanic and loved building engines for cars.  He especially loved spending time with his family.

James is survived by a daughter, Jamie Reed of Minford; two brothers, Chris Reed and wife Kristy of Portsmouth and Dwayne Reed of Portsmouth; a sister, Priscilla Charles of Scioto Furnace; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four nephews, James Charles of Scioto Furnace, Hayden Charles of Scioto Furnace, Brenton Reed and wife Raelynn of Minford, and Kyle Reed of Portsmouth; two nieces, Haleigh Charles of Scioto Furnace, and Marlena Watts and husband Kyle of Portsmouth; great nephews, Silas Watts and Leland Reed; friends, Mary Louise Eichenlaub and Larry Armbrister; and neighbors, Aaron and Jamie. He was also preceded in death by nephews, Jeremy Reed and Albert Charles.

A memorial service will be held 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2023 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME (WOLFE-NELSON CHAPEL) in Sciotoville with military honors presented by the James Dickey Post #23 of the American Legion.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday.  Online condolences may be left at DWSwickFuneralHome.com.
