Jonnie Sue Smith, 75, of Wheelersburg went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 3, 2024 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. She was born December 8, 1948 to the late John Wesley and Dovie (Gilliam) Sparks in Portsmouth. Jonnie was strong in her Christian faith and loved the Lord. Next to the Lord the most important thing in her life was her family. She loved watching her children play sports when they were young, she was the biggest and loudest fan in the stands. Jonnie loved taking care of her flowers and decorating her home for all of the holidays. She was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan. She also loved watching sports and westerns on television.
Jonnie is survived by two sons, Jason Fultz and wife Rochelle of Wheelersburg and J.J. Marx and wife Carol of Portsmouth; a daughter, Terri Rae Scales and wife Rhoda of Columbus; five grandchildren, Travis Ellis, Justin Fultz, Chloe Fultz, Makenzie Marx, Kaileen Easter; four great-grandchildren, Issac Scales, Bradley Spradlin, Ayden Ellis and Raelynn Ellis. In addition to her parents Jonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Smitty" Smith; a son, Lee Easter, three brothers, Orville Sparks, Ricky Sparks, and Vicky Sparks; five sisters, Ranie Justice, Frances Wooten, Ruby Ball, Gertrude Kazee and Mavis Crabtree. In lieu of flowers the family requests Donations be made to SOMC Hospice.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Fairmount Cemetery in Jackson, Ohio with Pastor Brent Saxton and J.J. Marx officiating. Those who wish to attend the service are asked to gather at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME (WOLFE - NELSON CHAPEL) in Sciotoville at 9:30 a.m. to participate in a funeral procession to the cemetery.
