Surrounded by her loving family, Leatrice Joy (nee Stringer) Murphy, our beloved Mother & Grandmother, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016. She was 88 years old, born Feb. 28, 1928, daughter of the late Marvin Lee Stringer and Elsie Wyatt in Phelps, KY. Leatrice was also preceded in death by her husband, Tennis Murphy; one son, Roger Lee Murphy and her granddaughter, Lori Murphy Samples; brothers, Lynwood Stringer of Oak Hill, Marvin Lee Stringer of Haverhill, Cecil Stringer of Lloyd, KY and her sister, Josephine Stringer Brown of Ashland, KY. Leatrice was a retired executive director of the American Cancer Society. She was dedicated to serving the patients and their families of Scioto County and was instrumental in easing their journey through a most difficult period in their lives. With a lifelong, deep abiding faith, Leatrice loved going to church. She was a member of the Bonser Run Christian Baptist Church.

She is survived by her 2 sons, Jimmie (Ellen) Murphy of Leesburg, FL and Steve (Mellissa) Murphy of Dunnellon, FL; 2 daughters, Leila (Jeffrey) Wood of Leesburg, FL and Kathy (Danny) Deck of Wheelersburg; ten grandchildren, Lydia (Rodney) Dilday of Grand Island, FL, Jimmie (Paige) Murphy,II of Ocala, FL, Lorna (Eric) Murphy and Steve Murphy, II of Lexington, KY, Jeffrey (Shannon) Wood of Tucson, AZ, Christopher (Marion) Wood of Citrus Springs, FL, Danielle (Steve) Luster, Amanda (Tony) Holbrook, Deana (Mark) Scaff and Danny (Jessica) Deck, Jr. all of Wheelersburg; 26 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Bobby Jo Stringer of Lexington, KY and sister, Evelyn Stringer Mullins of Rush, KY.

Services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Swick-Bussa-Chamberlin Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, with Pastor Danny Deck officiating. Interment will be at Haverhill Cemetery in Haverhill, OH. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday and one hour before the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
