Leonard Alden Powell, 77, of Minford, went to be with the Lord Friday evening March 16, 2012 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. He was born January 27, 1935 in Sciotoville to the late Bennett Willard Powell and Naomi Louise Thompson Powell. Leonard was a 1953 graduate of Portsmouth East High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He was a generous and caring person and he loved spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by two daughters, Tammy McGue (Butch) of Wheelersburg and Priscilla Pennington (Darrell) of West Portsmouth; a son, Lenny Powell (Kim) of Summerfield, FL; a brother Wayne "Butch" Powell of Vidor, TX; two sisters; Bonnie Groh of Jackson and Patty Elrod of Wayne. He is also survived by five grandchildren, John Kirkpatrick, Josh Kirkpatrick (Kasey), Ryan Kirkpatrick, Kerry McGue, and Kinley Powell; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Korbin Kirkpatrick, all of whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Blackburn.
Funeral services will 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 20, 2012 at the Wolfe-Nelson Funeral Home in Sciotoville with Pastor Ralph Shaffer officiating. Interment will follow at Old Wheelersburg Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be provided by the American Legion, James Dickey Post #23. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5 - 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, one hour before the service. Online condolences may be left at www.WolfeNelsonFuneralHome.com.
