Leonard R. Smith, 89, of Wheelersburg, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday October 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 24, 1933, in Wheelersburg, a son of the late Kenneth and Ethel (Hankins) Smith. He was retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation after over 40 years of service, and was a member of Sacred Mission Church which was his life and where he was very active and loved anything he could do for the church.
Leonard is survived by two daughters, Shirley King of Xenia and Jill Pauley and husband Jerry who was like a son to him, of Jamestown; special son-in-law and grandson, Roger Lewis and Dustin Lewis who helped take care of him; a very special friend, Juanita Toft of Wheelersburg; 9 grandchildren, Matthew, Erica, Dustin, Melissa, Beth, Trista, Ben, Toni and Jordain; 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; sons-in-law, Matt Tucker and Rick McCarty. Other special people in his life, Erin Pauley who helped care for him, Charles and Nadine McNight who were always there for him, Henry and Maggie Burkett and David and Lisa Wright who would visit him.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elois Smith whom he married on November 8, 1952 in Sciotoville; two daughters, Beverly Tucker and Pamela Lewis, three brothers, Ralph, Bill and Jim Smith.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday October 22, 2022 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in Wheelersburg with Pastors Henry Burkett and Jack Lore officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Friday October 21, 2022, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral Home.
