Mabel "Joan" Litz, 93, of Wheelersburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Courtyard Assisted Living in Wheelersburg. She was born on August 16, 1932, in Grayson, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Tipton and Mable (Crawford) Pieratt.
Joan lived a life grounded in love, faith, and devotion to her family. Before dedicating herself to raising her children, she worked as a telephone operator in Grayson, Kentucky and at the local movie theater—where she met the love of her life, her late husband, Billy Litz. As a homemaker, Joan found joy in caring for her family and took great pride in maintaining a warm and welcoming home. She loved cleaning, not just as a chore, but as an expression of care and comfort for those she loved.
A faithful member of First Church of Christ in Wheelersburg, Joan lived her life guided by her Christian values and her deep love for her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and the many generations that followed.
Joan is survived by her son Billy Joe (Benita) Litz of Portsmouth; daughter Nanita “Suzy” (Ted) Adams of Wheelersburg; and niece, whom she raised as her own, Evette (Tim) Fields of Circleville. The loves of her life were her grandchildren; BJ, Jodie, Amber, Amy, JP, Tyler (deceased), Timmy, and Caleb, along with her many great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband Billy, she was preceded in death by her sons Steve Litz and Sam Litz; nephew Bobby Litz; brothers Ossie Pieratt and David Pieratt; and sisters Vyda Fannin, Louise Miller, Dorothy Everman, and Sue Clevenger.
"Joan's kindness, strength, and devotion to her family and church will be remembered by all who knew her". Her love continues to ripple through the generations she nurtured and inspired.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at First Church of Christ, 1224 Dogwood Ridge Road, Wheelersburg, with Sam Cooke officiating; interment to follow at Memorial Burial Park. Visitation will be at the church, prior to the service, starting at 11:00 AM until the service at 1:00 PM. Funeral services are under the direction of D.W.
