Marcille Pontious, 95 of Wheelersburg, died Saturday April 16, 2016 at SOMC Hospice Care Center in Portsmouth. She was born on May 23, 1920 in Chiilicothe, OH, the daughter of the late Herbert and Zoa Scott Timmons. Marcille is preceded in death by her husband, Francis "Freck" Pontious, whom she married on Feb 11, 1942 in Russell, KY; son, Gary Pontious and siblings, Vaughn Timmons, Enid Leeth, and Erma Dale Dyke. She had worked at the US Shoe factory, started the 1st Sears Catalog Sales in Athens, she was the past president and district deputy of the Athens Club 165, and belonged to the Eastern Star of Athens. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Wheelersburg, loved to travel and read, with her favorite vacation being at Disney World with her grand and great-grandchildren, and was an avid painter.
Marcille is survived by her daughter-in-law, Melody Pontious of South Shore, Ky; 2 grandchildren, Wendee (Dave) Underwood and Ashlie (Jason) Risner both of Wheelersburg, 3 great grandchildren, Hailee (Chris) Allen, Andrew Risner and McKenna Risner all of Wheelersburg; nieces Kay Driesback of Circleville and Carol Rupe of San Antonio, Tx and several great nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the Swick-Bussa-Chamberlin Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, with Pastor Rase Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Londonderry Cemetery in Ross County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the funeral hour on Tuesday.
