Obituary

Age 89, of Wheelersburg, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. She was born in Salyersville, KY on July 11, 1923 to Charlie and Tellia (Jenkins) Helton. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked at the R.G. Berry and Williams Shoe Factories, Best Care Rehabilitation Center, and owned her own restaurant in Jackson, "The Shack", which was well known for its tasty food. She loved to read, sew, garden, and do jigsaw puzzles. Most of all, Minnie enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn (Tom) Hurst of Sciotoville; one grandson, Brian E. Hurst (Cristiana) of Rome, Italy; one granddaughter, Tomi Sue (Danny) Stiers of Wheelersburg; two grandsons, Jerry Lee Stiers and Brian Taylor Stiers; one sister-in-law, Delores Helton of Ashtabula; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1973 by her husband, Leslie B. Phipps; one daughter, Linda Hammonds; one grandson, James Foley; six brothers; one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Wolfe-Nelson Funeral Home in Sciotoville with Pastor Chris Oiler officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home or one hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to SOMC Hospice.
