Oscar Lee Lawless, 66, of Portsmouth, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the SOMC Hospice Center. Born on March 16, 1960, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Oscar was the son of the late Joseph Lee Lawless and Shirley Lorene (Howard) Lawless.

Oscar spent much of his life working as a skilled carpenter, a trade he took great pride in. Known for his strong work ethic and willingness to help others, he earned the respect and friendship of many throughout the years. Oscar never met a stranger and was truly a friend to everyone he encountered. His kindness, humor, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Outside of work, Oscar enjoyed attending auctions, following race cars, and spending time with family and friends. One of his most faithful companions was his beloved dog, Sophie, who brought him great comfort and companionship.

Oscar is survived by his sons, Ryan (Amber) Lawless of West Portsmouth and Joshua Denney of Jackson; his daughter, Rochelle (Justin) Coffman of Fostoria; his brothers, Terry (Rhonda) Lawless of Londonderry and Jeff Lawless of South Webster; his sister, Sharon (Dan) Schmidt of Portsmouth; and his ten cherished grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.

In addition to his parents, Oscar was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica Lawless; his brother, Larry Lawless; and his sister, Joan Cornell.

Oscar will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his love for life’s simple pleasures, and the genuine care he showed to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. A life well lived leaves a legacy of love, and Oscar’s legacy will continue through the many lives he touched.

Funeral Service will take place Saturday, June 13, 2026, 1:00 PM, D.W. SWICK & SON FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES in Sciotoville; Jeff Chinn officiating, interment to follow at Ormes/ Old Rosemount Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM prior to the service.
