Paul Mendel Schrader, 84, of South Webster, returned to his Heavenly Father on August 5, 2017.  He is survived by his true love of 59 years, Joann Havener Schrader, whom he married August 10th, 1958; two loving daughters, Jugenia Monk (Philip) of Granger, IN, and Melinda Stevens (Russell) of South Webster; grandchildren, Madison Galbraith (Brandon) of Auburn, IN, Meighan Stevens of South Webster, Aaron Monk of Salt Lake City, UT, and Bryan Stevens of South Webster; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Lawson Galbraith, also of Auburn, IN; brothers Alvin "George" Schrader (Geneva), Lewis Schrader (Nancy), Wayne Schrader (Tommie), and Melvin "Beanie" Schrader (Barb).  He will be happily remembered by many.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Eliza Jane Chandler Schrader of Beaver, OH; brothers, James "Cavis" Schrader, Danny Schrader, Homer Schrader; sisters, Mary Bobst, Roberta Rider, and Carolyn Schrader; great-nephew, Steven Schrader.

Paul (PeeWee) was born September 15, 1932 in Beaver, OH.  He graduated from Beaver (Eastern) High School in 1953, then enlisted in the United States Army where he served on ski patrol and as a ski instructor in Germany. Paul was a graduate of the University of Rio Grande where he received his teaching degree and met his wife, Joann. He also served as Rio Grande's JV coach for three years.   He taught Government and History for the Wheelersburg School System for 30 years.  Even though he encouraged standard education, he always had a saying, "Don't let books get in the way of your education!"  Paul believed in learning through everyday life activities.  He enjoyed gardening, sports, cheering on his grandchildren in any and every activity that they participated in, teaching, traveling the world, farming, telling jokes, hiking, helping others, and could be found any winter evening working various puzzles in front of the fire with his devoted dog, Heidi.  Paul also had a soft spot for children.  He received a Jefferson Award for his volunteer work for Children's Hospital.  He made close to 3,000 bird houses that he cut and put together for the children so they would have them to paint while they were in the hospital. To know Paul was to know a true character. He loved his life, family and friends.  It was often said that he would walk a mile to play a joke or bring a smile to those around him.  In honor of Paul, live life to the fullest and give out smiles every day.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of D.W. SWICK-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in South Webster.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. and one hour before the funeral on Tuesday.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017 with Pastor Larry Moore officiating.  Interment will follow at South Webster Cemetery with military services provided at graveside by James Dickey Post #23, American Legion.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Children's Hospital/Miracle Network in his name or to the University of Rio Grande scholarship fund in support of the Paul Schrader Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O.
