In loving memory of Phillip "Hurston" Waddell, age 73, passed away quietly at his home on Thursday, May 2, 2024.  Born January 24, 1951 in Ironton, Ohio, son of the late Noah and Elizabeth (Pierce) Waddell.  Hurston attended Green High School in Franklin Furnace.  For many years he worked at Portsmouth Iron and Metal Company.

Hurston is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Rebecca (Imm) Waddell; his brothers, Noah  Waddell Jr. (Regina), Lawrence Waddell (Linda); along with nieces, Karen Waddell and Lisa Waddell; and a nephew, Kevin Waddell.  He was preceded in death by a nephew, Michael Waddell.  Hurston also leaves behind a devoted companion his loving dog "Kiwi".

Hurston had a zest for life and a creative side to his personality that made him unique and loved by family and friends.  Hurston's talents were diverse and wide spread.  He could draw a picture that looked precise and real.  He could play a guitar with zero lessons. Hurston loved the outdoors, his main passion was his love for arrowheads and artifacts.  He was happiest walking through the fields of Scioto County looking for arrowheads.  He also loved gardening.  With his passing a void will be left in the lives of those he held close.  Hurston will forever be cherished and remembered in the hearts of his family and friends.  The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to SOMC Cancer Center and SOMC Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 Monday, May 6, 2024 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in Wheelersburg with Brother Rex Smith officiating.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace.
