Ralph Dean Shaffer, Sr, 93, of Wheelersburg passed away Monday May 24, 2021 at SOMC Hospice Center. He was born December 17, 1927 in Lucasville a son of the late Curtis and Maggie (Davis) Shaffer.
He was a retired journeyman diesel mechanic, was an Honorably Discharged  Army Veteran having served during WW II and received the Victory Medal. He attended Riverview Missionary Church, enjoyed tinkering with automobiles and telling stories.
Ralph is survived a daughter, Betty (Jim) Petersen; a son Ralph (Vicki) Shaffer, Jr.; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alpha Nell (McCormick) Shaffer; siblings, Charles, Dave, Helen and Betty.
The family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff members of Portsmouth Ambulance, VA, Homes Health Care, Pallative Care and SOMC Hospice.
Visitation will be 12 Noon to 1 PM Thursday May 27, 2021 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in Wheelersburg. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Ralph Shaffer, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Burial Park with Military Honors by James Dickey Post 23, American Legion.
