Richard Dean Stapleton, age 71 of Sciotoville, died Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born March 11, 1945 to Earl and Nellie (Wright) Stapleton. He was a graduate of Minford High School and a Sheet Metal Journeyman, Union Local #24 by trade. Dick was a longtime employee of Mechanical Construction Company and owner of River Bend Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Diane Hawes Stapleton; one son, Kyle (Kristie) Stapleton of Sciotoville; one daughter, Lori Lowe of Sciotoville; five grandchildren, Caitlyn (Derek) Massie, Cody Stapleton, Cole Stapleton, Emilee Lowe, and Drew Lowe; one great-grandson and the apple of his eye, Bo Massie; one sister, Carma Baldwin of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Joe of Legioneer, IN; and several loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Jack, Paul, Sam, Pete, Norris, and George; and sisters, June, Sue, and Hazel.

Dick was a former leader of youth athletics in Sciotoville as a coach, organizer, and supporter. He loved the student athletes at East High School, known as "Pap" to those he loved the most. He was a proud grandfather, loving father and husband. Dick was a good friend to many and instilled that nothing was more important than being loyal to those you love and what you believe.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville with Pastors Larry Moore and John Richards officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call Monday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Tuesday.
