Age 78 of New Boston, passed away on August 5, 2016 in Georgia. He was born August 9, 1937 in Portsmouth to Albert and Rosie (Algood) Bowens. He was a carpenter for the City of Portsmouth until his retirement. Robert enjoyed volunteering at the Salvation Army, watching professional wrestling, and loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by three sons, Donald Bowens, Sr. of Portsmouth, Fred (Donna) Bowens of Wheelersburg, Robert Bowens of Portsmouth; five daughters, Donna Bowens, Diane Secrest, Judy Bowens, Mary Bowens, Rosie (David) Hewett; many grandchildren including a special grandson who he raised, Donald (Crystal) Bowens II; many great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Bowens and John Bowens; and his longtime companion, Brenda Bradford. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Hacker and Virginia Rambo; two brothers, Albert Bowens and Ronald Bowens.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2016 at WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service. Online condolences may be left at www.WolfeNelsonFuneralHome.com.
