Obituary

Age 88 of Portsmouth formerly of Sciotoville, died March 12, 2017 at Hillview Retirement Center. He was born July 15, 1928 in Bryson City, NC to Walter and Ruth (Woody) Hoover. He honorably served his country in Korea as a member of the U.S. Army. Robert worked in sheet metal with Hoover's Roofing and then spent 24 years working for Martin Marietta. He enjoyed motorcycling, traveling and sightseeing, and was a big NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his daughters, Becky Hoover (friend Jim Smith) of Ironton, Terri Hoover (friend Trent Williams) of Sciotoville; stepson, Bob (Regina) Smith of Portsmouth; grandchildren, Leigh Anne Smith, Aaron Faulkner, Eric Robertson, Josh Robertson; great-grandchildren, Bria McNeer, Boston and Brady Faulkner; sister, Edith McKisson of Herndon, VA, Sue Prose of Columbus, Dorothy Price of Norfolk, VA, Retha (George) Piette of Newport VT; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Anne Hoover; wife of 50 years, Doris in 2007; daughter Lisa Michelle in 1980; brothers, Walter Jr., John, and twin brother Hubert.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017 at WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace with military honor provided by James Dickey Post #23, American Legion.
