Robert (Rob) Alan Martin, 71, of Wheelersburg, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, in Ashland, Kentucky, after a brief illness.

Born July 4, 1955, in Sullivan, Indiana, to Bud and Helen (McCammon) Martin, Rob carried his small-town values throughout his life. He believed in hard work and accomplished much in his career as a procurement professional. He learned the procurement trade from the ground up as a beginning Buyer, rising to the level of a lifetime Certified Purchasing Manager. His career with a global construction company would provide the opportunity to live and work in every time zone in the continental U.S. As a leader in his field, he could be found working late into the evening to ensure his tasks were completed on time and with excellence. He worked as he lived—with integrity and accountability. He also had a passion for teaching and taught college math at several locations.

When not pouring over purchase orders or math calculations, Rob focused his attention on his family and also serving his community by coaching sports. From soccer to hockey, Rob taught by example and displayed a true desire for fairness and sportsmanship.

As someone always on the move, he had a love for outdoor activities such as hiking, skating, long-distance biking, and windsurfing. A true road warrior, Rob loved traveling and remained ever ready for the next adventure. Whether it was a challenging bike ride, an unchartered trail, or a trip to somewhere new, he embraced life with enthusiasm. Relaxation time included reading and enjoying watching sports with his two cats nestled by his side. Those who knew Rob will remember his adventurous spirit, his clever quips, and his willingness to help where needed.

As he raised his children, he demonstrated strong Christian beliefs as a member of the Wheelersburg United Methodist Church where his family pew knew he would be faithfully found sitting beside his wife of now nearly 48 years. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories shared with family, friends, teammates, coworkers, and the many people whose lives he touched along the way. Most important to Rob was his role as “Dad” as he supported his children in their professional ballet careers and sports endeavors. Forever “Hey Dad” or “Hey Coach,” he loved this life.

Rob is survived by his wife, Sherry Martin of Wheelersburg; his son, Skyler Martin (and fiancée Georgia Bould) of London, England; his daughter, Taylor Martin of New Jersey; his brother, Tim (and wife Nicole) Martin of Robinson, Illinois; and his sister, Deb Armstrong of Robinson, Illinois; and just as close, his father-in-law, Harold Brownfield; sister-in-law, Barb (and husband Jon) Walls, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Helen Martin, and his brother, J.L. Martin.

Rob lived with a spirit of adventure and a love for the open road, the outdoors, and the next experience waiting around the corner. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him—he never let go of any of them.
