Sammy Joe Bocook, 68, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 19, 2014. He was born September 12, 1945, to the late Marshall Bocook and Carrie Wilson Bocook Lewis. Joe was a retired carman of Norfolk Southern Railroad, and was a US ARMY Veteran during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Swauger Valley Free Will Baptist Church.
Joe is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gloria Taylor Bocook, whom he married, May 28, 1966. In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by two sons, Sammy Bocook, Jr. of Columbus and Robert (Angela) Bocook of Minford; two daughters, Beth (Ed) Smith of Pekin, IN and Amy (Tom) Williams of Sciotoville; 14 grandchildren, Andy, Eddie, Miranda, Taylor, Cody, Gabriel, Preston, McKenzie Grace, Eli, Mackenzie, Jonathon, Bradley, Isaac, and Aaron; one brother, Bill (Gail) Bocook of Wheelersburg; 3 sisters, Carol Mays of Sciotoville, Patty (Larry) Lavender of Franklin Furnace, and Marsha Bocook of Wheelersburg.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Swick-Bussa-Chamberlin Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Pastor Mike Simpson officiating. Interment will be in Harrison Furnace Cemetery on Swauger Valley Road. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 - 8 p.m. on Saturday and one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
