Obituary

Virginia Ilene Oiler Baer, 85 of Ashley Corner, passed away December 24, 2014 at Bristol Village in Waverly, Ohio. Virginia was born January 22, 1929 in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late James H. and Kathryn Yeley Oiler. Virginia was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Baer, whom she married on January 18, 1946; two granddaughters, Laura Elaine Baer and Patricia Marie Baer; three brothers, Leonard, James, and Larry Oiler; a sister, Naomi Ruggles; her in-laws, Oscar and Ruby Townsend Baer; and a special friend, Dorothy Claxon Pitts.

She was a lifelong resident of Scioto County, grew up attending Porter Free Will Baptist Church, and gave her life to Christ at the age of 12, being strongly influenced by her uncle, John Henning. She began attending Bloom Free Will Baptist Church until her illness prevented her from doing so. She was a very faithful member, active in the choir and special singing, teaching Sunday School and holding many offices, the last being Church Secretary/Treasurer. Virginia also wrote many songs that she sang and used for her Bible School, she founded Vacation Bible School at Bloom and directed it for 25 years. She was a graduate of East High School and was a former employee of Portsmouth Beauty Supply.

Virginia is survived by a daughter, Amber (Daniel) Barker of Gahanna; three sons, Mark (Debbie) Baer of Lucasville, Daniel (Debra) Baer of Wendall, NC, and Aaron Baer of Piketon; 10 grandchildren, Michael (Kimberly) Miller, Matthew Miller, Brian (Heather) Baer, Bethany (Mick) Whitt, Joshua (Kristie) Baer, Danielle Vanhoose, Allison Baer, Andrea Baer, Jacob Baer and Elisha Baer; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; 4 special sisters-in-law, Wilma (Paul) Hieneman, Nancy Oiler, Anita Oiler, and Shirley Oiler.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Bloom Free Will Baptist Church, State Route 140 in Scioto Furnace with Danny Baer, Chris Oiler, and Kenny Klaiber officiating. Interment will be at South Webster Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 9 p.m. at Bloom. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.swickbussachamberlin.com.
