Walter Ray "Jake" Holland, 55, of Portsmouth, died Tuesday August 11, 2009 at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth after a long illness. He was born January 3, 1954 in Portsmouth to Walter and Evelyn Hanes Holland. Jake graduated in 1972 from Portsmouth East High School and attended machine school for two years. On February 14, 1987 he married Cathy Conley in Portsmouth. He retired this year from the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility after working there for 25 years. Jake enjoyed fishing, hunting, football, golfing, and especially spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife Cathy, six children; Todd Holland (Lynnsey) of Portsmouth, Raenee Gross (Matt) of Columbus, and Elizabeth, Zach, Haleigh, and Caleigh, all at home; a brother, Bob Holland (Marilyn) of Portsmouth; two sisters, Linda Pack of Portsmouth and Joyce Conroy (Ron) of Marion; three grandchildren, Macy and Drew Holland and Andy Gross; and several nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 14, 2009 at the Wolfe-Nelson Funeral Home in Sciotoville with Pastor Stan Webster officiating. Interment will follow at South Webster Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home and again on Friday, one hour before the service. Wolfe-Nelson Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
