Obituary

Walter Russell Johnston Jr., 70 of Portsmouth passed away Monday November 9, 2020 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born September 10, 1950 in Maybrook, NY a son of the late Walter R. Johnston Sr. and Bertha (Varwig) Johnston Miller.

Walter was a self employed Care Giver, had worked at the Ohio Barge Co., RC Bottling Co., Pepsi Cola and Coca Cola Bottling companies and was Co-Owner of of OMA's Oven. He also built the Family House from the ground up mostly by himself. He loved bowling and being surrounded by his family. He was a loving father and Caregiver to many family members and was a special person who loved and saw the good in everyone.

Walter is survived by two sons, Michael Johnston of Portsmouth and Andrew Johnston of Canton; three daughters, Linda Smith of Newcomerstown, Lori Newman and husband Jeremy of Wheelersburg and Jennifer Derifield and husband Chris of Ironton; a brother Blaine Johnston of Youngstown; six grandchildren including Evan Derifield, Arabella Johnston, Aliana and Myla Newman.

A gathering of family and friends will take place from 5 to 7 PM on Monday November 16, 2020 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in Wheelersburg. Online condolences may be sent to dwswickfuneralhome.com.
